This was a big year for Park Hill South High School’s boys swimming team, perhaps the best in a while. The Panthers placed fourth at the Missouri state meet, tied for the best finish in school history, and set a school-record for points at the event with 173.
And while coach Steve De La Piedra is quick to call that finish a team effort, even he admits there’s no way the Panthers could have done it without star junior Liam Huffman — The Star’s All-Metro Missouri boys swimmer of the year.
“He was a captain on our team, instrumental on our relays,” De La Piedra said. “In terms of a go-to-person, he was it. There was never any doubt that if he was swimming a race, he was going to score points for us.”
