Christmas may be just eight days away, but hold off on that last trip to Zona Rosa or the mall on Saturday, because it is going to be a wonderful day for high school sports. 

Some of the top wrestling and basketball action of the season takes place on Saturday.

First in wrestling there is the Johnson County Classic at Blue Valley, which has 20 teams.

If that wrestling isn't doing it for you though, check out the Toshiba KC Midwest Nationals. Thirty two teams from nine different states are wrestling at the KCI Expo Center up by conveniently enough KCI.

I would make a case that this tournament has a tougher field than the state championship. Especially considering there were state champions last year that didn't make the finals.

Additionally there is some major baskebtall being played Saturday.

It is the final day of the Hy-Vee Shootout and has wall to wall boys basketball out at Avila.

Also though there is the High School Rivalry Showdown at Municipal. A host of district rivals will face off including, Oak Park v. Winnetonka, Truman v. William Chrisman, Raytown v. Raytown South and Blue Springs vs. Blue Springs South.

So yeah, head out and catch one of these games or matches.
