1. Can the Sumner Academy girls make it back to state? The Sabres won the Kansas 5A-1A state championships the last two seasons, but 2008 state champ Sarah Ottens graduated last year. The Sumner boys are also worth watching. The Sabres’ regional begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mission Bowl in Mission.
2. Which Sunflower League teams will emerge? The league features some of the top teams in the area, but projecting which squads might advance from a competitive regional at AMF West Lanes (10 a.m. Saturday) is tough. For instance, the Sunflower League tournament last weekend was won by the Shawnee Mission South boys, who were 5-10 in the regular season, and the Olathe Northwest girls, who have also been inconsistent. All of the league’s teams, except Lawrence and Lawrence Free State, are back together at this regional.

3. What will Olathe North’s Ryan Klaus do for an encore? When the Eagles bowled Wednesday against the other Olathe schools, Klaus claimed the spotlight in a talented field by bowling a 300 game. Klaus, a senior, just missed medaling at the 6A state tournament last year when he finished 21st.
4. What does Olathe Northwest’s Jennifer Wood have in store for Saturday?Wood, a senior, could be one of the top 6A state contenders and is among the favorites to win her regional. She placed third at state and regionals last year and finished second at the Sunflower League tournament last weekend.
5. Will Shawnee Mission West’s Adam Lewis add to his postseason bowling resume?Lewis, a senior, seems to bowl his best in these kinds of moments. Two years ago, Lewis won the 6A state championship as a sophomore with a 688 series. Last year, he won a regional title with a 710. This year, he’s part of a deep Vikings team that didn’t bowl its best at the league meet last weekend. But history indicates he’s worth keeping an eye on Saturday.
