Olathe Northwest girls flexing their muscles

While the Olathe Northwest girls look to be the strongest team from this side of the state so far, it’s still early in the season and several other challengers aren’t far behind.

Olathe Northwest won the Olathe Invitational with a team score of 234 last week, followed by Lawrence Free State (209), Blue Valley North (190) and Blue Valley Northwest (190).

BV Northwest won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1 minute, 41.24 seconds with Kalli King, Jenny Martin, Marissa Leonard and Parker Watson.

The Huskies were second in the 200 medley relay (Martin, Melissa Funke, King and Watson) in 1:53.59.

Meanwhile, Watson was second in the 50 freestyle (24.31) and third in the 100 freestyle (52.98). Martin took third in the 500 freestyle (5:20.42), and Caroline Woody was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.99).

BV North’s Haley Smith finished third in the 200 freestyle (1:57.17) and contributed to a pair of strong relay swims.

The Mustangs were second in the 200 freestyle relay with Smith, Mardi Buchanan, Kelsey Bakalar and Ana Kuehler (1:41.50), and third in the 400 freestyle relay with the same group (3:44.61).

Shawnee Mission Northwest senior Brooke Brull placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:09.73) and second in the 100 freestyle (52.86).
