•FIRST TEAM: Kendall Patterson, McLouth, senior. Turned in another terrific year for the Bulldogs, who went 16-4 and lost to the eventual state champions in the regional final. Patterson hit .658 this season and set state records for career batting average (.743), doubles (66) and hits (164). First team all-state in class 3A. Committed to Kansas.
First base•FIRST TEAM: Lezley Lawson, McLouth, senior. Was an impressive dual threat for the Bulldogs, both on the mound and at the plate. Hit .676 this season with seven home runs and went 10-2 with an ERA of 0.92 as a pitcher. Also set a state record with 116 career RBIs. First team all-state in 3A.
•SECOND TEAM: Liz Buck, Blue Valley West, junior.
Second base•FIRST TEAM: Kendra Wright, Olathe Northwest, junior. Hit .521 with 24 RBIs for the undefeated state champions and didn’t commit an error all season. First team all-state in 6A. First team All-Sunflower League.
•SECOND TEAM: Susan Specht, SM North, senior.
Shortstop•FIRST TEAM: Laura Vickers, Olathe East, junior. Was a force at the plate for the Hawks, who went 22-3 and finished third in 6A. Hit .536 with 50 RBIs. Also had nine doubles, 10 triples and two home runs. First team all-state. First team All-Sunflower League.
•SECOND TEAM: Rachel Milnark, Lansing, junior.
Third base•FIRST TEAM: Jessica Brooks, Olathe East, senior. Four-year starter hit .431 this season with seven doubles, three triples and 30 RBIs. First team all-state in 6A. First team All-Sunflower League.
Outfield•FIRST TEAM: Kendall Grimm, Olathe East, senior. Had a team-high .570 batting average and scored 38 runs. Also had five doubles, eight stolen bases and 13 RBIs. First team all-state in 6A. First team All-Sunflower League. Committed to Wisconsin.
Lauren Himpel, Tonganoxie, senior. Switch hitter posted a .460 batting average with four doubles, two triples and 33 stolen bases for the Chieftains. Led her team in 12 categories this season. First team all-state in 4A.
Rosie Hull, Free State, senior. Bounced back with a tremendous senior year after missing her junior season because of an injury. Hit .507 for the Firebirds and is a first team all-state selection in 6A. First team All-Sunflower League. Committed to Kansas.
•SECOND TEAM: Chantelle Dietz, Olathe Northwest, senior; Maggie Hull, Free State, senior; Janessa Swinney, St. Thomas Aquinas, senior.
Pitcher•FIRST TEAM: Hannah Dale, Olathe Northwest, senior. The Sunflower League Player of the Year was a steady force for the undefeated state champions. First team all-state in 6A and an All-Sunflower League selection. Dale went 13-0 and posted a 0.53 ERA while striking out 137 hitters in 92 innings.
Brittney Lang, Lansing, senior. Posted a 12-1 record with an incredible 0.14 ERA in 98 innings for the Lions, who finished the season with a 21-2 record. Struck out 182 batters and allowed only 26 hits while walking nine. Struck out 40 batters in a 23-inning win against Basehor-Linwood. First team all-state in 5A. First team All-Kaw Valley League.
•SECOND TEAM: Jacinda Ramos, Olathe Northwest, junior; Kellie White, St. Thomas Aquinas, junior.
Utility•FIRST TEAM: Lindsey Muller, Blue Valley, senior. Was a dominant force for the Tigers, both on the mound and at the plate. Went 12-2 with a 0.24 ERA as a pitcher and struck out 154 batters. Had a .492 batting average with four doubles, one home run and 12 RBIs. First team all-state in 6A. First team All-East Kansas League. Committed to Missouri.
•SECOND TEAM: Brooke Thomason, Blue Valley Northwest, senior.
The Star’s selection process The Kansas City Star’s all-metro selections were made by members of the high school sports staff, who consulted coaches’ ballots. An athlete must participate in at least 60 percent of the competition for which the athlete has qualified to be eligible for first-team selection and 50 percent to be eligible for second-team and honorable-mention selection. At least 10 percent of the 103 Kansas City metropolitan area high schools must participate in a sport for a team to be selected. First-team, second-team and honorable mention selections are made in sports with more than 40-percent participation. First-team and second-team selections only are made in sports with between 16- and 40-percent participation. First-team selections only are made in sports with between 10- and 15-percent participation. Missouri softball is played in the fall.
