Jack Sock is starting to make this look easy.
For the second year in a row, Sock, a Blue Valley North sophomore this last spring, was easily the most dominant high school boys tennis force in the Kansas City area. And for his efforts, Sock, 16, is The Star’s All-Metro boys tennis player of the year.
Sock went 17-0 during the season and won the Kansas Class 6A singles state championship for the second time in his career. Along the way, he also picked up a regional title and an East Kansas League title and routinely beat the best opponents Kansas had to offer, including two All-Metro first-team players in Blue Valley West’s Max Helgeson and Blue Valley North’s Eric Sock, Jack’s older brother.
It only gets better when you consider Sock led the Mustangs to their first team state title since 1997. Throw in the fact that Sock also accomplished all these things last year as a freshman and is now 34-0 in his high school career, and you understand why he is so highly regarded.
And Sock has big dreams, too. He’s said in the past that he wants to play tennis at a big Division I school and eventually become a professional.
“This feels good,” Sock said after winning the singles state title in May. “I’m still trying to get that record of four (singles state titles) in a row.”
