COLUMBIA | Lincoln Prep hung with Webb City for a half, but simply appeared to run out of gas in the second half in a 70-52 loss in the Missouri Class 4 boys third-place game.
The Tigers came out slowly and fell behind early, but rallied to take an 11-10 lead after the first quarter. The two teams reached halftime in a 24-24 tie.
The second half belonged solely to the Cardinals, who began pounding the ball relentlessly to senior center Caleb Powell, who along with teammate Alan Pink led the game with 18 points. The Cardinals also ratcheted up their perimeter game and ran Lincoln Prep into the ground.
Webb City’s lead was still only four points at the end of the third quarter, but the Cardinals outscored the Tigers 27-13 over the final eight minutes turning a close game into a blowout.
Lincoln Prep, led by Beaumont Beasley’s 15 points and 13 from Justin Henderson, finished its season 21-10.
