It may be a little early, but I don't think so! No one , not even the respected sports analysts, wants to discuss play-off football on the eastside of the state. I have seen the westside full of chatter about prospects, division change ups, play-off makers and even a few that have down right picked their winners for state champion. Here, in the KC Metro, I guess it is a little more reserved, because on any given Friday Night, anything can happen! But, to me it is the debate, the chance of being right or (painfully) wrong that makes high school football exciting! So lets start the East Side Debate! Not looking for "investigative" decisions...use your heart if you want to, because you know these high school kids will!
6A: Okay, whose it gunna be to to bring back #1 for East Kansas?
5A: Do we have anyone in the East to match the ferocity of Hutch?
4A: Strange things happening in 4A, but whose going for gold this year ?
3A: Well?
1A-2A: Hmmm, any suggestions?
Again, this is just to get things rolling, keep talk going, sends some love out to your team...With all of the great teams the East side and the Metro of KC have to offer, there has got to be some great debates!!! :) Missouri chime in if you want, could start a thread for MO. too lol. Lets Get ready to RUMBLE! ;)

Okay, comments are actually extremely welcome...I think the KC Varsity Zone is really under used! So here is my personal opinion on 5A right now: Gardner-Edgerton from the east: If they can prove their physical play and offensive domination against the always tough STA, then they may have a shot of unseating the Salthawks....

Dont carried away too much with Gardner-Edgerton. Granted they have a god coach and a good quarterback, but during the regular season they don't play any good competition. As it is shaping up, STA is going to win the EKL title and the substate game will be between these 2 teams. Hutch wll still dominate.

Okay, 5A could be a toss, and no doubt hutch looks dominate, but anyone want to get to the 6A teams....who looks good so far? We are 5 games in and districts start soon, Olathe North still looks very good so far?

Olathe North is playing well in 6A. This Friday night against Lawrence Free State should show if they have what it takes to go all the way. There is a few things this might hurt the Eagles but hopefully they can stay focused and work with the play calls the coaches make.

Well still quiet on here, was expecting more of the football buffs to be out by now? Is it me or is it really quiet here in the East Kansas side of football? I mean, Olathe North, No. 1 in 6A across the board, then you have STA undefeated against the odds, GE down south trying to break out as a program, all the Olathe / Blue Valley schools with the talent out there and no one is talking... Is the economy that bad, that people can't even afford words lol?

Olathe North has a good chance to bring a championship back to the East side of the state, if they keep their focus. It doesn't look like the West is as strong this year in 6A. Manhattan may be the best in the West this year. Junction City will not return to defend their title, although they had a good year. What a heartbreaking loss to Manhattan in the last seconds of the game. James Franklin sounds like a good running back. I have not seen him play but did see Darren Sproles play for 3 years and did not think I'd ever see anyone better. It would be interesting to compare their stats. How many carries did each have to get their yards. And Darren's 33 touchdowns his senior season was incredible. In 5A, the West may play some of the best football in the state at any level. Hutchinson can play with anyone. And how about the first round matchups? McPherson (8-1) with one loss to Hutch, at Emporia (7-2). Emporia's two losses coming at the hands of Manhattan in OT and Junction City, who they had on the ropes. Never count out Salina South in 5A and Bishop Carroll is back again.
