Last Saturday, the girls’ soccer players with the dragon tattoos pulled themselves out of the most unforeseen circumstances and celebrated the most improbable comeback victory.
The Liberty girls, sporting fake dragon tattoos for team camaraderie, trailed Ursuline Academy of St. Louis through the first half of their Missouri Class 3 state championship soccer match. Even up until the closing minutes of regulation, the Blue Jays faced trouble while still behind 1-0. As the powerhouse team of the Kansas City area, Liberty seldom trailed an opponent. Even the girls themselves, seem clueless about the trivia.
“You know, I don’t even know,” Liberty coach Tom Rottjakob said. “It hadn’t been too often.”
