Good morning, kids. I'm here bright and early (at least bright and early for me) to recap the second week of HS football. But I see I'm not the only one. I woke up and checked out some of the reader comments from last night's games. Wow, people, good work. Because seriously, who wants to spend a lovely Saturday outside when you can get on the Internets, make up a goofy name and talk trash about people you've never met before? Good times!

Anywho. Let's start in KC and the game that I attended, Rockhurst-Hutchinson. Great game. Be sure to catch the replay on Metro Sports, it's worth it. (And you tell me if that should've been a touchdown or a fumble for Josh Smith) When Rock scored in three little plays on their first offensive series I thought, "Wow, that was easy. Rock's gonna blow this one open." Then Hutch came right back with their rushing attack and scored. It wasn't so much that they scored, but how they marched down the field that impressed me then I finally realized, "Uh oh, Rock's in trouble."

It was the second straight series where they pretty much handled Rock's first line and did everything they wanted to do offensively. That Deveon Dinwiddie is something special, the kid had over 100 rushing yards before halftime. Whenever Hutch called a sweep, he was around the corner with a full head of steam and whenever they lined him up as a receiver, he was so far ahead of secondary defenders that it seemed like they forgot to cover him. So considering all this, and the fact that Hutch actually led this game at one point, you could feel the uneasiness throughout Dasta. That Hawklet student section (show me a better one in the city) had to break out their 'Rock Don't Quit!' chant earlier than usual. And guess what? Rock didn't quit. The Hawklets played the best game I've ever seen them play and Nate Scheelhaase was a boss, running with purpose and making the right passes... that third-quarter scoring drive should be watched, dissected and used in lecture rooms across the city on How to Lead Your Team. In the fourth quarter, the Hawklets contained Dinwiddie in the fourth quarter and of course made the defensive play of the night on that 4-and-14 stop. Overall, great game, kids.
